'Swinkly Cottage' in Eggleston, Barnard Castle is in the heart of the 'Northern Dales'. Lying between Northumberland and the Yorkshire Dales the area is one of England's largest areas of outstanding natural beauty. The area is a mixture of mountains and moors, woodlands and valleys. Indeed the 'Northern Dales' are often described as "England's last wilderness".
The charming village of Eggleston itself has two pubs; 'The Moorcock Inn' and 'The Three Tunns Inn' both of which serve great food and a range of local beers. There is also a phone box on the village green. Eggleston village also has its very own tourist attraction; 'Eggleston Hall Gardens' (as featured in the ITV programme " Ladette to Lady").
Within a short distance of the cottage you will find castles ,museums and cathedrals. great outdoor walks and pretty villages and market towns. Within travelling distance Hadrians Wall, The Lake District, Beamish Open Air Museum and lots more.
Many of our visitors come back year after year as the area has so much to offer.

Fully fitted kitchen with Belfast sink, dishwasher, electric oven, microwave etc. Well stocked with crockery, pans, dishes and those little 'extras' that make for a home from home feel . Tea towels, washing up liquid, dish cloth, tin foil, cling film etc.
We also have a washing machine, freezer and second belfast sink in utility area.
Living Room
Large living/dining room with open coal fire (fuel provided) With two large comfy sofas, flat screen TV and HiFi it is a great place to relax or enjoy a family meal. The ground floor also has a small 'quiet' area with exposed stone fireplace/chimney breast, the perfect place to curl up with a book.
Other Rooms
Please note the twin room has a small 2'6" bed for a fifth person i.e. child or small adult. The room can take 3 single beds or converted to bunks plus 3rd small bed.
